The Health Professions Council is a former government quango cum regulatory body responsible for the healthcare professions in the UK. It protects use of the professional titles 'Chiropodist' and 'Podiatrist' and maintains a publicly accessible list of qualified practitioners. Members of the public are encouraged to verify that their practitioners are registered, to ensure their practitioner is suitably qualified and keeping their skills up to date.
The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists supervises the training and registration of all chiropody / podiatry students in the UK. They also have a useful site for advice to members of the public.

Birkenstock Sandals are recommended by Foot Wise Podiatry because of their manufacture quality (German origin) and their contoured footbeds. The latter support the foot and arch and may reduce clawing of the toes. They are now available on-line in the UK.
MBT shoes are available locally from The Nu U Shop, formerly MBT Midlands at Canon Park Shopping Centre, just off the A45 at Coventry. These specialist rocker-bottom shoes have unique Masai Barefoot Technology, simulating walking barefoot on a sandy beach or on springy moss. They provide a therapeutic workout for the whole body, encourage you to 'trot to the shops' and are a different approach for those with restricted ankle or bunion movements. At around £170 they are quite expensive, with different styles varying in their degrees of cushioning and support. Hence you should take time and care in choosing the right ones for your particular needs. MBT Midlands specialises in supplying the full range of available MBT shoes.
